The death has been announced of Anton Agius Muscat at the age of 86. He will be remembered for his work in the Moviment tal-Malti and l-Għaqda Letterarja Maltija in favour of and in the promotion of the Maltese language as well as for presenting various literary programmes for the two movements.
He was a member of the Għaqda tal-Kittieba tal-Malti (today l-Akkademja tal-Malti) in 1960. For many years he worked within the Council as PR Secretary as well as holding the position of Treasurer and Vice President.
On behalf of the Akkademja tal-Malti he organised and presented 14 television programmes in 1980/81 which were featured as Ħarsa mill-Qrib, in which viewers met veteran writers.
In 1982 writer Karmenu Vassallo described him as being a resourceful and competent contributor in Maltese journalism with an abundance of works in English and Maltese of a cultural/educational/social nature.
His funeral will be held tomorrow, Saturday, 3rd February at the St Julian’s Parish Church at 2 pm.
