Iran has launched a campaign to motivate the public to wear masks as the country is facing an increase in new virus infection cases, and even deaths.

Iran was among the worst hit countries affected by Covid-19 in the beginning of the pandemic. When in the middle of April restrictions to contain the virus were relaxed, the country experienced many new cases.

For the first time in two months, deaths surpassed the 100 daily mark during the past 10 days.

2,489 new Covid cases were registered in the past 24 hours, with the number of infections in Iran now totaling 225,205. 162 persons died in the past hours as the number of victims rose to 10,670.
