Irishwoman and IS recruit arrested on her return to Ireland

Lisa Smith was arrested on her return to Ireland, after associating with the Islamic State.

The Irish woman returned from Syria with her two year old daughter two. She first flew to Turkey, and from there took a flight to Ireland.

Her daughter was born in Syria, but still is an Irish citizen. In fact, the Irish authorities have already made arrangements for the girl’s accommodation.

Smith was arrested upon her arrival, and is being questioned by police on suspicion of terrorist offenses. She is also a former Irish soldier.

In a statement the Irish Ministry of Justice said that this was a sensitive case, and that all institutions and agencies were working on it.
