What used to be the Valletta Waterpolo Pitch has become a dumping ground for rubbish and a popular site for abuses. This place is presently in a dangerous state, although the area is frequented by families and visitors who dine in the various restaurants overlooking Marsamscetto Harbour or tale a walk along the seafront with its picturesque view of Manoel Island and Sliema.
This site is informed that attempts were made in recent years by the management of the waterpolo club to be given title to the land, with the possibility of developing sport and recreational faclitities. The aim was for the Valletta waterpolo team to have a decent place for training, and at the same time financial income to make good for expenses incurred by a waterpolo club in the premier division of the local waterpolo championship.
Nationalist MP Claudio Grech took to Facebook to create awareness about the state of abandon the pitch has fallen into. Grech also appealed to the authorities to pass on title to the site to the Valletta waterpolo club, both for the sport to tackle the social challenges in the capital city, and also for Valletta United Waterpolo Club to have a more dignified site.
A Government spokesperson told TVM that the process has started for the handing over of the title to the club, and all that remains is the presentation of a resolution in Parliament so that, after years of promises, the Valletta waterpolo club will have its own facilities just as other clubs have in other localities.
