ISIS bombs historical towers at Palmyra

The Head of Antiquities in Syria has said that militants from the Islamic State (ISIS) have bombed three historical towers in the antique city of Palmyra, Syria.

Maamoun Abdul Karim siad that the most beautiful and well-conserved monuments have been destroyed. The monuments, which were several storeys high, were located outside the walls of the zone known as Valley of the Tombs which belonged to rich families in Palmyra.

The destruction of these towers took place a few days after ISIS exploded two historical temples in Palmyra.

ISIS, who seized the UNESCO world heritage in May, had already bombed two Islamic sites near Palmyra which they had described as “manifestations of paganism”.
