Maltese bishop in Perù loses priest in tragic accident . . . and rejoices after ordaining two new priests
The Catholic Church today commemorates World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Malta has a number of persons committed to the priesthood and religious life, both in the country and abroad.
These include Monsignor Giovanni Cefai of the Missionary Society of St Paul, who heads the diocese of Huancane in Perù. Monsignor Cefai admitted recently to have experienced both sadness and satisfaction in his missionary work. He wrote that his diocese has some of the most dangerous roads in the world. One of the prelates who worked alongside him, fr Venancio, died after his car went over a cliff. he was 55 years old.
On the other hand, Monsignor Cefai conducted the ordination of two new priests. He appealed for help to be able to buy two vans suitable for the dangerous roads in the mountainous area, in order to be able to carry on with their evangelisation work as well as to support the people who live in poverty, by distributing essential items.
