Tourism and export of products experience substantial decrease during COVID
The National Statistics office has surveyed the Socio-Economic impact on the Islands during the first six months of this year’s pandemic.
The most affected sectors between January and June were tourism, the economy, public finance, enterprises, transport and the employment market.
The NSO said that although over this period tourism increased it had not attained the level of 2019 and in fact was 62% less than that year.
Although more new vehicles have been registered in this period over last year, the number was substantially less than two years ago, a drop of 21%.
In addition, over the first six months of this year, products exports reduced substantially while imports decreased marginally.
