Italy extended two other regions with the five already classified as red zones due to the big amount of Covid-19 infections.
Campania and Toscana were added on Friday with the list of high risk regions, which included Lombardia, Bolzano, Piedmonte, Aosta and Calabria, and will be placed under lockdown from Sunday.
Persons living in these regions were ordered to leave home only for work, health reasons or for an emergency. Bars, restaurants and many shops will remain closed.
The regions’ extension was announced as Italy confirmed a new daily record of Covid-19 positive cases – 40,902.
Government adviser, Walter Ricciardi, stated that the Government has between two to three weeks to decide if it will impose a new lockdown throughout the country.
