There were moments of fear for swimmers in Catona Bay which lies in the Reggio Calabria province. This happened when the swimmers saw a shark in the vicinity of the shore.
People at the sight were shocked when they saw the size of the shark and some said that even in the Maldives they had never seen a shark so large. Some people took videos of the shark and they went viral when posted on social media.
It was thanks to the intervention of lifeguards that the shark was steered away from the shore who acted so as not to alarm tourists and other swimmers in the area.
Although many think that sharks are not common in the Mediterranean Sea because they live in seas further away this is not the first time they have been seen swimming in the Mediterranean, including Malta, as happened recently in Żurrieq.
