After considering the recommendations of the Ornis Committee, the Government has announced the opening of the trapping season for the song thrush from today 20 October to 31 December and for the golden plover from 1 November to 10 January 2022 with the national quota being 5,000 song thrushes and 700 golden plovers.
In a statement it was explained that all those who are licensed to trap these birds are:
- Obliged to immediately report any song thrush or gold plover which is illegally caught, by phoning on free phone 8000 2020 on the mobile number registered in his name or through the mobile app Game Reporting MT. The systems will confirm the report by sending back an SMS as confirmation.
- If he catches a song thrush or golden plover which is ringed, he is obliged to write all the details on the ring form which is included with the special license and issued in the name of the licensed person.
- Has to report the trapping effort every time he goes trapping and does not catch a song thrush or golden plover by, before leaving the area, phoning on freephone 8000 2020 or on the mobile number registered in his name or through the mobile app Game Reporting MT, as explained in the license.
The free phone 8000 2020 also provided guidelines through a voice message which is easy to follow.
