Granted bail after being accused of having attacked his former partner

A 26-year-old man from Żejtun was arraigned in Court and charged with having attacked and threatened his former partner. The Court was informed the couple have a daughter and the alleged aggression took place at Żabbar when her mother took her to stay with the father.

The Prosecution said the mother lodged a Police report but did not present a medical certificate. The man denied the accusations. His defence requested bail and the Prosecution led by Police Inspector Oriana Spiteri did not object but requested that various conditions be imposed for the alleged victim to be protected as necessary.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja agreed to grant bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €4,500. He also issued a Protection Order and ordered the accused not to approach his ex-partner while warning him not to go to Marsa where his former partner resides while further warning him that if he breaches bail conditions he will be fined €7,000 and be jailed for two years.
