Giampiero Boniperti died last night in Turin, Italy at the age of 92 as a result of heart complications.
Boniperti joined Juventus as a 17-year-old player. He became the symbol of Juventus in the role he played by, among other things, helping them to win five championships. Boniperti the continued his close relationship with the club by occupying various posts.
Between 1971 and 1990, Boniperti served as President of Juventus, and between 1991 and 1994 he became the Administrator Delegate of the same club. In 2006, Boniperti was appointed Honorary President of Juventus.
His hard work was crucial for Juventus to sign up two players who over the years stole the hearts of Juventus supporters, namely Gaetano Scirea and Alessandro Del Piero. Boniperti managed to also bring Giovanni Trapattoni on board as the club’s coach.
