Keith Schembri withdraws libel suits against Daphne Caruana Galizia

The PM’s former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri has withdrawn two libel suits which he had filed against the late Daphne Caruana Galizia. This was stated during today’s sitting during which the cases were meant to be heard in front of Magistrate Victor Axiaq.

The cases were linked to two articles about the offshore company Egrant published by Mrs Caruana Galizia, in which she alleged that Mr Schembri used to receive money from people close to politicians in Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, four libel suits which the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had filed against Mrs Caruana Galizia, Matthew Caruana Galizia, Karl Gouder and Mario Frendo have been adjourned until March. In Court it was stated that the postponement was requested in light of the current political situation.
