Alan Kurdi with 133 immigrants on board heading for France

The vessel Alan Kurdi with 133 immigrants on board has changed its route and is now heading for the port of Marseilles in France.

The immigrants were rescued on Saturday and the ship requested the help of coordination salvage centres in Malta and Italy.

Italian coastguards yesterday morning evacuated eight persons including a five-month-old baby.

The ship is expected to reach France in the coming hours.
