Auditor General presents report on the work of the National Office for Verification

The Auditor General, Charles Deguara, presented the annual National Office for Verification (NAO) Work and Activities Report for the year ending 31st December, 2018, to the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Anġlu Farrugia.

In his introduction to the publication the Auditor General covered the general activities, developments and work carried out by the NAO for the year in question. He emphasised that in future the NAO should continue to determine that its essential scope is to offer a service to ensure that operations in the Public Sector should conform to the best interests of the community. On his part, the Deputy Auditor General reflected on the commitments of the Office to implement a strategic five-year plan.

The Auditor General presented a copy of the NAO’s strategic plans for the next five years, titled Improving Governance and the Performance of the Public Sector, to the Speaker. This has been published after extensive internal and external consultation.

The report also contains a general outlook on the types of verifications carried out by various sectors of the NAO, including financial verification and conformity, investigative verification and IT verification as well as the administration o the Office.
