General Election voting in Sweden

The people of Sweden have been voting in their General Election against a background of fears that the party against immigration, Sweden Democrats, will strengthen their position and obtain 20% of the vote.

When casting his vote, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven described Sweden Democrats (SD) as being a racist party. On the other hand SD, which has Nazi roots, describes itself as being an inclusive party. According to opinion polls no party will achieve an absolute majority.

The electoral campaign has been dominated by immigration issues due to which it is being predicted the SD will see an increase in support.
