Lack of evidence on Gozo-Malta tunnel – Church Environment Commission

The Church Environment Commission has asked the Government to publish its studies on all the other possible alternatives for better accessibility between Malta and Gozo. According to the Commission, the information which has been given on the tunnel is not substantiated by evidence and it complained about the lack of information about other alternatives.

It added that despite the promises made, the addition of another Gozo Channel ferry and the fast ferry service have not yet materialised. It alleged that the helicopter service between Gozo hospital and Malta has deteriorated.

It added that in the absence of the improvement of existing services or other new ones, then obviously the arguments in favour of the tunnel would be strengthened. It said that every accessibility project between the islands should include a high level of transparency and should be sustainable from the environmental, social and economic aspects.
