Large amounts of alcohol seized from shelves of Msida mini market

The campaign by the Customs Department against the importation, sale and consume of contraband products intensified over the weekend with various inspections which took place around Maltese shops and markets.

A number of cigarettes and alcoholic drinks were intercepted in Birkirkara, while vehicles were also seized in Zabbar, Naxxar, Valletta, and Msida which were carrying contraband products.

This was the largest operation ever carried out by Customs, following long hours of observation, which involved an Msida mini market, where 268 bottles of contraband alcohol were confiscated from the shelves. In a drawer at the shop, 163 customs duty labels were found which were supposed to be stuck on other bottles.

The Customs Department is appealing to the public that if it comes across alcoholic drinks which are not marked by a customs duty label, they should report the matter anonymously on 2568 5124 or 2568 5200.
