LIVE: Forensic experts testify in compilation of evidence against Yorgen Fenech

The compilation of evidence against Yorgen Fenech continued this morning in front of Magistrate Rachel Zammit Montebello. He is being charged with being the mastermind behind the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Today around 33 forensic experts are expected to testify who were involved in the Police investigation into this case.

The Police believe that the businessman was the brains behind the murder which took place on 16 October 2017.

There are also ongoing criminal proceedings in connection with this murder against George and Alfred Degiorgio who are being charged with carrying out the crime.

Vince Muscat is serving a 15 year sentence after pleading guilty to being involved in the murder.

The prosecution is being led by Supt Keith Arnaud and Inspector Kurt Zahra with the assistance of deputy Attorney General Philip Galea Farrugia.

Fenech is being defended by lawyers Dr Marion Camilleri, Dr Charles Mercieca and Dr Gianluca Caruana Curran.

The Caruana Galizia family is being represented by Dr Jason Azzopardi and Dr Therese Comodini Cachia.

10.45 The first witness will be Dr Katya Vassallo who translated the testimony of  Matthew Caruana Galizia, the son of the victim, from English to Maltese. She passed the report on to the Magistrate.

10.48 The second witness was Dr Ali Safraz, a pathologist involved in the autopsy, who said that Caruana Galizia died as a result of the explosion.

10.58 The next witness was Dr Mario Scerri who presented the report. Dr Scerri was appointed to examine the crime scene.

11.04 Dr Daniel Vella, an explosives expert is testifying about the analysis of the traces of explosives found at the crime scene. Among the traces found was TNT.

11.10 A sizeable number of police officers are testifying who were in one way or another involved in the case. They are confirming the reports they prepared or in which they were involved.
