Local Councils obliged to engage contracts manager

Local Councils are being obliged by Government to engage a contracts manager, whose role will be to supervise the Council’s contracts and to ensure that works or services are carried out as laid down in the contract.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Silvio Parnis stated a survey has shown that the majority of Local Councils do not have the services of a contract manager. Mr Parnis added that the contracts manager should also supervise ongoing works and advise the Local Council on technical issues related to the contract.

The Parliamentary Secretary expressed the hope that with contract works being certified by a contracts manager, the Local Councils will be assured of value for money, and the state of the localities will improve, including cleanliness.
