Lucky escape for Zabbar councillor whose car ended up under a container

A Labour councillor from Zabbar, Ghislaine Bongailas had a very bad accident on her way to work yesterday morning.

On Facebook, she wrote that the accident happened yesterday at Quarry Wharf, Valletta, where an empty container was parked,  taking up half of the car lane.

She explained that this is a two-lane road and between 6.30am and 7.30am whoever is driving from the direction of the Waterfront finds it difficult to see because the sun comes directly in the driver’s eyes. She said that because of the sun, she did not see the container and crashed right into it, with the front of the car ending up under the container.  She explained that she could have tried to pass by the container by going on the opposite lane, but this would have risked a head-on crash.

Ghislaine Bongailas wrote that it was a miracle that she was not injured except for some bruises and whiplash. However, she said that if there had been a passenger riding with her, it would have resulted in a tragedy.

She noted that unfortunately this is not the first accident of its kind in this area. She described it as a terrible experience which she hopes no one else ever has to go through.

She thanked her colleagues for their help and said she was safe and sound at home, recovering from her injuries and the shock of the accident.
