Final preparations for the completion of Luqa Road – the main artery between St. Lucia and Luqa – are underway. The road will be closed in one direction between Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon, pending the final works.
With an investment of € 2 million this road was rebuilt and widened to have a first time pedestrian and cycling path on the side of the Addolorata Cemetery.
At the same time systems have been introduced to reduce the risk of accidents, including better entry and exit from roundabouts, crash barriers and a new lighting systems. The junctions between residential streets in the residential area of St. Lucia and this road has been improved for greater safety. For the first time ever, stops for public transport have been introduced.
Between Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon, Luqa Road will be closed to traffic pending final works, including the last coating of tarmac. Infrastructure Malta said that while this road was closed, drivers going from Gudja, Qormi or Luqa to Paola, should pass from an alternative route which would lead to Barrani Road.
