Marsaxlokk and the surrounding area were the centre of a training exercise on Friday morning for an emergency operation at the Dellimara Power Station. The exercise involved a simulation during maintenance work at tank which leaked fuel and was engulfed by flames.
Engineer Michale Falzon told TVM that the training was more realistic as neither Enemalta workers nor emergency workers knew about the exercise. “The simulation exercise involved burning fuel in flames and persons injured who needed to be rescued by intervention teams.”
The exercise is held every two years in the presence of Environment and Health and Safety authorities. The Enemalta exercise also involved the participation of members of the Civil Protection, the Police and medical officers.
