Malta has the second worst air pollution in Europe caused by absence of an Environmental Plan – PN

The Nationalist Party Spokesperson for Health, Stephen Spiteri, said that in the absence of a Government Plan for the Environment, Malta is suffering the second greatest concentration of air pollution in Europe.

He said air pollution is affecting hundreds of people, causes asthma, lung cancer and other conditions directly related to air pollution. With this as a background, Dr Spiteri said these figures show the Government’s grave indifference on the state of family health.

He also mentioned the European Environmental Agency that showed that Malta’s has the fourth poorest quality of air while death from respiratory causes has increased to 600 annually.

PN Euro Parliament candidate, Roselyn Borg Knight, said the PN has eight proposals in its electoral manifesto to address these problems. These included the reduction of traffic and the overall strengthening of policies for refuse management.
