Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that although Malta is a neutral country, this does not mean that it should close its eyes. He was answering questions by journalists on the Government’s decision to reject a request by the Russian authorities for the use of Maltese air space by military aircraft from Syria to Venezuela.

He said that Malta took the best decision even in the spirit of a sense of international solidarity.

The Prime Minister answered to a number of other questions, including on foreigners in Malta. He stated that even, due to lack of nurses and carers, the services of foreigners are needed. Dr Muscat said that one has to be on guard against a spirit by the Maltese against foreigners.

Questioned on Air Malta company, the Prime Minister stated that the company’s accounts are audited by international companies, stressing that the Government does not interfere.
