Provisional figures released by the National Statistics Office show that the Maltese economy expanded by over 1,000 million euro, or 8.9%, during the past year. The figures show that in 2018, the Gross Domestic Product stood at 12,320 million euro, following an increase of 1,006 million euro. In real terms, the Maltese economy grew by 6.6%.
This growth resulted from, among others, an increase of over 5% in domestic consumption. All main sectors of the economy registered growth. The figures show that the services increased their contribution to the economy by nearly 686 million euro. Industry increased its share of the GDP by 88 million euro, construction showed an increase of 37 million euro, and fisheries and agriculture accounted for another 22 million euro.
