Man accused of sexually assaulting a girl inside the WC of a Paceville establishment

A 49-year-old Frenchman has been arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at an establishment in Paceville.

Lionel Seux, who said he does not work because he is disabled, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Appearing before Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras the prosecution, led by Inspectors John Spiteri and Leeroy Balzan Engerer, explained how the accused was in an establishment in Paceville when he met a 16-year-old girl and took her with him inside the lavatory.

It was there that he allegedly took off his pants and helped the girl take her pants off and touched her private parts and coerced her into touching his.

The prosecution said that if it were not for the persistence of the girl’s girlfriend, who kept knocking on the door until she walked in on them and stopped what was happening, the case would have been one of sex with a minor.

The prosecution objected to the request for release from custody because of the seriousness of the crimes which a punishment of imprisonment in excess of 9 years.

It also said that there was a fear that the suspect would flee the country because he was only here on holiday as well as risk of tampering with evidence since he could contact the girl as they had each other’s mobile number.

The defense said that the man was still presumed innocent and therefore should not be kept in prison and also mentioned the fact that the girl had not appeared to have objected to his advances.

Magistrate Galea Sciberras rejected the request for bail.
