UPDATED: Man arrested for cocaine possession at Ċirkewwa is also accused of having burnt down the Floriana Arch
Bjorn Grima, who is 35 years old and from Sliema, and who is alleged to have burnt down Floriana’s historic arch, has again been arraigned in Court and accused with the aggravated possession of cocaine when Police found 30 grams of the substance in his vehicle.
Last Wednesday the accused, together with his girlfriend, was on his way to Gozo when he was stopped by Police and arrested. In Court, Grima entered a plea of not guilty.
His Defence Lawyers, Franco Debono and Amadeus Cachia, after requesting he be released on bail, contended there are no further witnesses in the case as the only witness was the girlfriend and she had already spoken to Police. They also said the accused had accepted responsibility for the substance with the Police.
The Prosecution, led by Police Inspector Alfredo Mangion strongly objected to bail because the accused had breached bail conditions in another case and also because there may be interference with the evidence.
Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech accepted the Defence plea for bail against a deposit of €35,000 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.
