Man arrested after attacking 75-year-old man, leaving him lying injured on the ground in Santa Venera

A joint collaboration between the Police and the Major Crimes Unit in Hamrun, has led to the arrest of a man, aged 54, in connection with a case of assault and mugging of an elderly man in Santa Venera.

The case happened on 7 May, when at around 11.30pm the Police were informed that in Misraħ il-Barrieri, Santa Venera, there was a man lying on the ground.

The Police went immediately on the scene and found the 75-year-old man who had sustained head wounds, so they called for medical assistance.

it appears that the man was attacked while he was walking, he was thrown to the ground and his wallet in which there was some cash, was stolen.

After several days of investigation and the analysis of a number of videos from CCTV cameras, the Police managed to identify the alleged thief who was arrested in the last few hours.

He is being held at the Police HQ lock up in Floriana, and is expected to be arraigned at around 1.30pm today in front of Duty Magistrate Dr Marseann Farrugia.
