Man arrested in connection with Ta’ Xbiex armed robbery

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Ta’ Xbiex.

Police said in a statement how late last night they received information about the alleged thief. This was followed up with action by the Rapid Intervention Unit Police and the Major Crimes Squad, the man was arrested in Ta’Xbiex.

In recent hours, District and other Police at the Major Crimes Department intensified their investigations related to the robbery that occurred between Wednesday and Thursday to the detriment of two women. That day, a man approached the two women as they were walking along the seafront, and after assaulting them with a knife, he fled the scene with a bag belonging to one of the women.

After the arrest, police carried out several searches and in the man’s residence, where some times related to this theft were found. Other items related to another recent burglary were also found.

The man is being held at Police lock-up Headquarters in Floriana for further investigation. Investigations are ongoing.
