Man charged with insulting police officers in the course of their duties

A man has been sentenced to three months in prison suspended for six months after being found guilty of insulting and threatening two Police officers.

Felix Barbara was accused of insulting and threatening Sergeant Arthur Rizzo and Constable John Paul Young on March 14, 2015,in Cospicua.

Police were called to the scene after receiving a phone call that the alarm of Three Cities Jewellery was going off.

When the two policemen went to the scene they found the accused in a car with two other men who were arguing.

While the Police attempted to stop them, Barbara started insulting them and started hitting the third man again.

Police were forced to use pepper spray to stop the fight and arrested the accused who was brought to Court.

While finding the man guilty, Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit noted that Barbara had apologized and from then on had been acted reasonably.

In addition to the suspended prison sentence the accused was fined € 800 . Investigations were carried out by Inspector Josric Mifsud.
