Man fined €2,500 for keeping dogs in small cages

Noel Attard, 39, from Rabat, Gozo has appeared in front of Magistrate Joe Mifsud accused of causing cruelty to two dogs.

The Court heard how the accused was holding the dogs tied up in a garage in small cages.

After he was warned various times by officials from Animal Welfare, to allow the dogs to run free in the garage or else make the cages bigger, the officials took the action required because the accused failed to do what was asked of him.

The Animal Welfare officials together with a vet went to inspect the location and found the two dogs in small cages inside which they could barely move. One of the dogs was also not registered as required by law.

The accused was ordered to pay a fine of €2,500 for cruelty to the dogs because he was keeping them in a restricted space as well  for not registering them.
