A 40-year-old man from Zabbar has been held under arrest after he was charged with violently attacking his mother and sister.
The man, whose name cannot be published in order to protect the identity of the alleged victims, was charged with domestic violence in front of Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras.
The Prosecution, led by Inspector Eman Hayman, said that the two women filed the domestic violence reports with the Police on Monday, at the Floriana HQ. It said that the accused’s actions were part of a series of incidents which included physical violence and damage to his mother’s house.
It said that the man tried to fight with the two women while he was drunk. At first the women did not file a report because they did not want him to be arrested again since he was out on bail on other charges.
The man was charged with physical, moral and psychological violence against his mother and sister, of frightening them and demanding money.
He was also charged with insulting the victims and threatening them with blunt objects, of breaching the public peace and breaching his bail conditions.
The Court upheld the request to issue a protection order for his mother and sister and their respective families.
