Man guilty of paying for €6,000 worth of alcohol with worthless cheque

In Court, 34-year old David Grech was sentenced to a one year prison term suspended for three years after admitting that in 2010 he paid for a consignment of whiskey and wine with a worthless cheque.

Grech was accused with fraud and misapropriation when he bought the consignment with a value of  €6,027 from NM Arrigo Ltd and paid with a cheque that was linked to a closed bank account.  The company turned to the police when the cheque couldn’t be cashed.

While sentencing Grech, Magistrate Carol Peralta ordered him to pay back the  €6,027 in six months time.
