Man killed in Gharb had received jail sentence after beating partner

The man found dead at Gharb this morning is 42-year-old Walid Salah Mohamed, an Egyptian who resided in Gozo.

The man had been found guilty by the Gozo Court in December 2015 of having slightly injured his partner Christiana Vella, who is also the mother of his children.

TVM is informed that it was Vella herself who identified Mohamed’s body this morning.

The woman had stated in Court that Mohamed had threatened to throw acid at her face is she allowed the children to attend religious instruction lessons at the primary school.

The man had been found guilty by Magistrate Joseph Mifsud and had been sent down for the maximum 12-month period besides being fined, with the prison sentence being reduced to five months at appeal stage before Chief Justice Silvio Camilleri.
