Man remanded in custody on tools theft from car at St Paul’s Bay

A man was denied his release from custody after he was accused with aggravated theft in Court this afternoon.

44-year old Italian, Sandro Lo Presti who lives in Malta, was accused that last night he stole construction tools from a parked vehicle in Triq is-Sajjied, St Paul’s Bay.

Lo Presti, who was assisted by legal aid lawyer Christian Chircop, denied the charges and requested his release, saying he has a fixed residence and has been living for a long time in Malta.

However, Inspector Josef Gauci objected to the request and said that accused has already been found guilty of other theft charges and he breached conditions for provisional release.

The prosecution added that Lo Presti is a heroin addict and turns to stealing to maintain his addiction.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke ordered that the Italian is kept under custody at the Corradino Corrective Facility.
