Man says he did not know he was carrying drugs in his luggage

A 31-year-old man has been held under arrest after he was caught at Malta International Airport with 2 kilos of cocaine.

Ahmed Elmzouga, who is from Libya and lives in Swieqi, was travelling from Brussels to Malta when he was stopped by Customs officials who were suspicious of him.

The man pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking. He said that he did not know he was carrying drugs in his luggage and mentioned third parties connected to the case, with the Police still trying to identify who they are.
The Court turned down the request for bail while ordering his assets to be frozen.
Dr Franco Debono and Dr Marion Camilleri appeared for the accused.
