Man sentenced to four years in jail after he was found guilty of assault and robbery in Qormi

Darren Brinat has been sentenced to four years in jail and was fined €116.47 after he was accused of injuring two people and robbing a lotto booth.

Appearing in front of Magistrate Joseph Mifsud, Brincat was charged with causing grievous injuries to Matthew Mario Grech at a bar located in Pjazza Narbona, Qormi on 18 September.

He was also accused with robbing a lotto booth at Triq San Edwardu, Qormi two days before, stealing around €200 in cash. He was also charged with keeping a woman against her will and slightly injuring her. He is also being charged with carrying a knife without a permit and of being a relapser.

Although he apologised for what he did and showed remorse, the Court noted that the accused had a colourful criminal record.

Along with his prison sentence and the fine, he was ordered to pay €1,256 in Court expenses.

The Court recommended to the Director of the Corradino Correctional Facility to give Brincat the help and treatment he needs.
