Man stole watch while group was diving at Ċirkewwa

A man who is successfully undergoing a drug rehabilitation programme was placed under a probation order after admitting a theft from a car parked in Ċirkewwa.

47-year old Robert Farrugia was found guilty that in December 2014 he stole a Citizen watch and €15 from a divers’ van parked in Ċirkewwa. The watch, valued at €180, belonged to a man who at the time was diving with a group of other persons.

The daughter of one of the divers, who happened to be in a car, saw Farrugia searching in the van and in another car. He was later on apprehended by police at the same parking lot. He was also found in possession of tools used for theft.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke heard two probation officers testify that Farrugia had already been placed under a probation order on a separate case of recitation. The officers said that Farrugia is successfully following a drug rehabilitation programme and “positive changes occurred” in his life.

The Court therefore placed Farrugia under a two-year probation order.
