UPDATED: Charged with stabbing man to death with scissors – remanded in custody

A 23-year-old Somali national has been arraigned in Court and charged with the murder on Friday evening of a 25-year-old Sudanese national, by stabbing him in the neck with a pair of scissors. The crime took place on the side of 13 December Road in Marsa. Kinaan Abdinasir Noor pleaded not guilty to the charges. Besides causing the death of another person, Noor was charged with possession of an irregular weapon without a Police licence.

It emerged in Court that the victim is Bakry Bashir Alnur. The Police had initially stated the victim was an Eritrean national, based on how he had registered himself on arrival in Malta. Sources informed Television Malta, however, that the victim’s friends identified him as being Sudanese.

Inspectors James Grech and Wayne Camilleri stated in Court that the Police had arrested the accused after a witness to the crime identified him.

No request for bail was made at this stage, and accused was remanded in custody.

Sources close to the investigation told Television Malta the Somali had been with two other persons when they attacked the Sudanese. The Police are still looking for the other persons in order to arraign them and charge them with the crime. The same sources said it appears the Sudanese man was attacked and robbed by three persons. Police investigations are ongoing.
