Went to remove a cockroach and ended up arraigned for domestic violence

A man who answered a telephone call from his former wife asking him to go to her home to remove a cockroach ended up in Court arraigned for domestic violence.

The 31-year-old man was arraigned for attacking his former wife and frightening their son who suffers autism. In Court he said that on arriving at her home he discovered she was with another man behind his back and the man was an alcohol and cocaine abuser. He said he did not want the man to be in his child’s presence.

The accused entered a plea of not guilty and said he had no money to pledge against bail as he argued his wife had taken all the money he had in the bank.

The Magistrate granted bail against a personal guarantee of €4,000 and ordered him to keep away from his wife and their matrimonial home. The Court also warned him not to breach bail conditions because if he did not have the money to pay for the guarantee he would end up jailed.
