Marsaxlokk residents want Sunday open market to dismantle at 3pm
Marsaxlokk residents have voiced their opinion in a Local Council voting exercise on the time for the dismantling of the locality’s open market on Sundays.
89% of residents who voted agree that the Sunday market at the seafront should dismantle before three in the afternoon and not by sunset. 771 residents voted from the 3,220 eligible residents, with 684 agreeing that the market dismantles before three while 76 disagree with this time. There were 11 invalid votes.
The position of the majority of voting residents resembles that of the unanimous decision by  the Local Council members. Mayor Horace Gauci said that their wish is that the 170 market hawkers dismantle their stands at 3.00pm so that the area can be cleaned and residents and the public may enjoy the seafront. Mr Gauci added that the Council will meet next Tuesday to discuss the result and present it to the Government as its reaction to the white paper consultation on open markets.
