About 60,000 patients will benefit from free medicines – Deputy Prime Minister Fearne

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health, Chris Fearne, said that next year’s Budget has voted a record €972 million for the health sector.

Minister Fearne was addressing a media conference in which he reviewed the health sector and said the money will be invested in greater facilities and new services.

He recounted that more free medicines will be added to the Government list and this is estimated to benefit 60,000 patients on an investment of almost €10 million.

Among the projects which he said will be carried out Dr Fearne referred to the extension of the Medical Imaging Department and the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital as well as an MRI for the Gozo General Hospital, together with the opening of new health centres in various localities at the start of next year.
