The President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca has begun a visit to the London hospitals where Maltese patients go for treatment. In all she will visit seven hospitals and three residencies where patients and their relatives live.

Speaking with TVM she said that the expenses for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation each year has continued to rise. She said that the expenditure for specialized chemotherapy has gone up to €800,000 a month while this year the funds required  for transport and accommodation for patients and their relatives who need to travel abroad for treatment has reached one million Euro.

This was apart from the increases which the MCCFF is estimating for the different services it provides, and for which the global expenditure is being projected to reach around 9 million Euro to be able to cope with the demands of those who reach out for assistance.

The Malta Community Chest Fund foundation this year will have helped around 800 people – between patients and their relatives who accompany them abroad for treatment not only to the UK, but even to Italy, Sicily, Germany and Spain.
