Mexico’s first woman Governor dies in helicopter crash

The Governor of the central state of Puebla in Mexico, Martha Erika Alonso, has died after the helicopter she was in crashed. Her husband,  Senator Rafael Moreno Valle and the two pilots also died. Reports say that there was a third passenger on board who died as well.

The accident shortly happened after the helicopter departed from the capital of Puebla.

Alonso, 45, was sworn in a few days ago, becoming the first woman Governor, after a heated election. She was a member of the centre-right party,  PAN.

The new President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed the death of the Governor and her husband. In a Tweet, he expressed his condolences to the relatives of the two politicians and said that an investigation will be carried out to establish the truth about what caused the helicopter crash.
