Here is a beautiful view of Mġarr ix-Xini beach as you have probably never seen it.
This photo, which was taken by the astronomer Joseph Caruana, gives us an indication of the natural beauty which our forefathers used to enjoy and which today is unfortunately disappearing.
In this picturesque photo, one can not only see the tranquility of Mġarr ix-Xini by night, but also the galaxy of our solar system, known as the Milky Way. Through his camera, Dr Caruana managed to capture the stars which we are no longer able to see with our own eyes because of the the pollution caused by artificial light.
Dr Caruana told TVM that when he was young it was a scene like this which spurred him to embark on a career in astronomy. However, today’s children will not have this inspiration because light pollution does not allow them to see the beauty of the universe, and encourage them to find out more about it.
But what is the solution? Dr Caruana says in no way would he propose turning off the lights all over Malta and Gozo, however, all we need to do is to just install lights which do not blind us to the treasures which can be found above us in in the skies.
