Michela given warm welcome at airport

Singer Michela Pace was accorded a warm welcome in the Arrivals hall at Malta International Airport on her return from Tel Aviv where she took Malta to the final session of the Eurovision contest.

The singer showed her appreciation for the support she had been given during her musical voyage.

Michela was welcomed at the airport by, among others, Culture Minister Owen Bonnici, and in her first comments the singer described her participation as a beautiful experience.

“I learnt a lot from it and I enjoyed it; it helped me a lot to grow, both as an artist and also as a person, and will no doubt help me in my singing career. I am very happy and proud to be Maltese. We obviously gave our 100%, and when we look back we will feel very proud and honoured,” the singer declared.

The Chief Executive of Public Broadcasting Services, Charles Dalli, described Michela’s performnce in the Eurovision as a good one.

“It was a very difficult contest; we are very happy to have reached the final and equally satisfied with Michela’s performance on behalf of Malta,” Mr Dalli stated.

The 64th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest was won by Holland, with the song Arcade interpreted by Duncan Laurence.

This is Holland’s fifth victory in the Eurovision Song Contest. Holland won the contest with 492 points – 261 points from televoting and 231 points from the professional judging panel. Italy placed second with 465 points, followed by Russia with 369 points.

In Saturday’s final, the song Chameleon acquired 75 points. The country which awarded the highest number of points to Michela was Azerbaijan with 10 points, followed by Holland and Italy with eight points each. Malta’s 12 points went to Italy.

The European Broadcasting Union, organisers of this festival, published the results of the three sessions. In Thursday’s semi-finnal Michela placed eighth out of the ten countries making it to the final.
