The names of the brothers Adrian and Robert Agius, known as “Tal-Maksar”, and Jamie Vella, were already on Police files in the investigations of the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Two months after the homicide they were among ten persons who were arrested from different localities but were later released from arrest.
They were arrested anew yesterday afternoon. Two are being investigated in connection with the murder of Caruana Galizia while the three are involved in investigations into the homicide of October, 2015, when lawyer Dr Carmel Chircop was shot dead in a garage complex at Birkirkara.
One of the brothers, Adrian Agius, has been linked to the More Supermarkets saga. It was reported that among other matters he had pledged hi person property for the obtaining of a €0.75 million loan that lawyer Chircop had provided for Ryan Schembri for the supermarket chain in 2014. Agius was also a Director in another company related to Schembri – Interaa Holdings. In September of the same year Schembri fled from Malta and a year later Dr Chircop was shot dead.
Adrian’ brother, Robert, was arraigned in Court for drugs trafficking in 2012 but the case was dismissed because the Court declared the Prosecution had not provided sufficient evidence to justify proceeding with the case.
The father of the brothers was killed in a homicide that has still not been solved. On 24th April, 2008, Raymond Agius, was the victim of an armed attack n a bar at Birkirkara and was killed on the spot.
Meanwhile, Vince Muscat has started serving his 15-year prison sentence after changing his version and has now admitted to the murder of Caruana Galizia. Despite his head wounds he managed to drive to the Msida police Station.
Vince Muscat was implicated in a hold-up during the summer of 2010 that took place at the HSBC General Quarters at Qormi. He was arraigned in Court to face charges, among others, of having fired shots at a Policeman, had attempted to steal a firearm from another policeman and the theft of two vehicles that had been used in the hold-up.
