Miriam Dalli elected Vice President of the Socialist and Democratic Group in the EU Parliament
The Head of the Labour Party Delegation in the EU Parliament, Miriam Dalli, has been selected as Vice President of the Socialist and Democratic Group in the EU Parliament.
She acquired 101 of the 130 votes to become the first Maltese person to occupy such a position.
In her first comments after her appointment Dalli said she aimed to implement a policy that developments at European level become relevant at family and citizen levels throughout the Member States, including Malta.
During the last two days the S&D Group chose its leadership, with the Spaniard Iratxe Garcia Perez elected as Group President.
Miriam Dalli will be working closely with a cabinet of nine MEPs who will draw up policies covering various sectors.
