Mistake of those who quoted 70+ new cases for today

In the wake of this morning’s social media reports mentioning higher numbers of new cases, a spokeswoman for the Health Ministry told Television Malta that 22 migrants who had already tested positive for the virus and were included in statistics for the previous days,  were tested again yesterday.

The spokesperson added that these migrants were found to be still positive for the virus, adding that some individuals had erroneously added the figure to the number of new cases when the former had already been announced.

The Health Ministry meanwhile appealed for responsibility and reiterated that one should not speculate with numbers or the spreading of false rumours which needlessly alarm the people. The Ministry added that to date, there are no patients in Intensive care.

The Ministry further stated that testing on the high side is one of the more effective measures against Covid-19, as this is a way to isolate positive cases and quarantine those with whom they would have been in contact. Ths Ministry added that this will help to reduce the spread of the virus as much as possible.
